Sun Kyoung Kim was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. Kim received both a BFA and MFA in metals from Sungshin Women’s University in Seoul, Korea, and her second MFA in metals from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA. Kim has discussed her idea about the body and human relationships in her artwork.

Kim’s most recent body of work is jewelry that generates a performance based on interaction between its wearers and locates the site of the work within those moments of interaction. She has won numerous awards and scholarships including Brodie Fellowship from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Educational Endowment Scholarship from Society of North American Goldsmith, Eugene, Oregon, and Niche Award from Rosen Group, Baltimore, Maryland.

She has nationally and internationally exhibited her work in various exhibitions such as “New Traditional Jewelry” at Sieraad International Jewellery & Silver Design Fair, Amsterdam, Netherlands, “Craft Forms” at Wayne Art Center in Wayne, Pennsylvania, and “40th Mid-States Craft Exhibition” at Evansville Museum in Evansville, Indiana.
