Justin Young, Assistant Lecturer
Communication Studies
Justin R. Young is an Assistant Lecturer in Communication Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He received his B.S. in Electronic Journalism from Murray State University (2002) and his M.S. in Mass Communication also from Murray State University (2003).
His interests include all areas of communication, but particularly in public relations, new media, film, and video games. He has presented on subjects as diverse as religious depictions in popular media, professional wrestling, media coverage in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and even the uncanny valley.
Mr. Young’s professional background includes working for College Sports Television (now CBS College Sports), Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity’s national headquarters, running his own media production company, and creating the award-winning Professor Hobo comic strip and cartoon series. He has previously taught at Murray State University, Tougaloo College, Trine University (where he also served as Chair and was the recipient of the Robert Andrew & Anne Ewing Smith Excellence in Teaching Award), and Ashford University. He currently serves as advisor to PRSSA.
