Horticulture
Laura Thomas began teaching horticulture classes at SIU in 2018. Her previous experience included working at a landscape design build firm where she created design work as well as overseeing the maintenance crew.
Laura grew up in on a farm in central Illinois. She came to Carbondale to pursue her education in architecture. While working towards her associates and baccalaureate degree, she took landscape design classes in the horticulture department. There she discovered an interest in how architecture and the landscape are often not considered at the same time, so she aimed her studies to combine the two disciplines. She received a master’s degree in 1992.

- The relationship of interior and exterior space.
- The relationship of buildings, people, and plants.
- Playing in the dirt.
