You won't find a greener college in the Midwest to study horticulture at than Southern Illinois University! Our University Farms include vegetable production research, a tree improvement center, greenhouses, a horticulture center, and organic gardens. Southern Illinois boasts the state's first official wine region, making our vine-to-wine course uniquely relevant. Meanwhile, our new cannabis research initiative is poised to vitally support the medical marijuana industry in Illinois.
By learning from some of the best faculty in the nation, our graduates go on to rewarding careers using science to propagate and grow plants. Armed with this bachelor's degree, our alumni work with a vast array of farmers, businesses, and organizations that grow fruit, vegetables, plants, and flowers.
Bachelor's Degree
We have designed our Bachelor of Science program to prepare the next generation of horticulturalists to merge science and art. Whether immersed in the classroom, greenhouse, or field, our students gain expert instruction to use their skills in innovative and imaginative ways.
Specializations
The primary purpose of our horticulture program is to provide specialized academic preparation in the different content areas of production horticulture, the skills required for landscape design, construction, and maintenance, and the technical skills needed for professional turf management.
Master's Degree
Some students advance their careers by diving into teaching and research graduate work. Our Master of Science Degree in Plant, Soil, and Agricultural Systems has several concentrations available, or you can custom-tailor your study to meet specific individual goals and objectives.
