Zoology student with sedated bobcat

From amoeba to zebra.

The Zoology Program is ideal for animal enthusiasts eager for immersive field and laboratory experiences addressing diverse ecological and evolutionary problems. This program, set in a region rich in biodiversity, provides extensive opportunities for research in unique natural areas, including the Shawnee National Forest, the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, and other nearby forests, lakes and rivers. The Zoology Program encourages active participation in lab and field research, expanding your learning and research experience beyond the classroom.

Bachelor's Program

We offer two undergraduate degrees in Zoology. Choose the Bachelor of Science if you are wholeheartedly fascinated with animals and the natural systems they depend on. Choose the Bachelor of Arts degree track if you are an animal enthusiast with broader interests than science alone. The Bachelor of Science degree features five specializations, each leading down a science-based path toward a specific, animal-focused career. In contrast, the Bachelor of Arts is for students who plan to pursue law, business, journalism, or other fields to help support public awareness, government policy, or financing to perpetuate healthy animal populations and ecosystems.

Master's Program

In our Master’s degree program you will find challenging and exciting coursework, while gaining valuable first-hand experience in personally designing and carrying out field or laboratory research. Our faculty does research on a diversity of topics (insert link to faculty research interests), providing a range of opportunities to work side by side with other graduate students with similar interests.

Doctoral Program

Ph.D. students obtain advanced training in conducting research, and are expected to exhibit greater independence and originality in designing their research projects. Your faculty advisor will help you work toward your goal of generating important, publishable research. You will also be able to gain teaching experience to enhance teaching and communication skills.
