Dr. Zhijing Chen is an Assistant Professor of Sport Administration. She holds a bachelor’s degree in software engineering from Sun Yat-Sen University and a Ph.D. Degree in sport management at the University of Michigan. The overall focus of her research is sport marketing, with linkages to sport consumer behavior, communication, and decision making in particular. The aim of her research is to advance psychological and behavioral theories in sport marketing, enhance our understanding of how sport consumers behave under the influence of marketing tactics and in today’s dynamic sport business environment, and provide insights and practical implications for athletes, sport organizations, and other relevant entities. Some of her current research areas include athlete activism and sport betting in the United States.
Dr. Chen's teaching duties at the graduate level include Research Techniques (KIN 500). With her background in engineering and marketing, she has a special interest in teaching research methodology, sport marketing, consumer behavior, and sport analytics.
Dr. Chen has practical experience working with several sport organizations and events, including the Texas Rangers, the Cincinnati Open, the Guangzhou Open, and the United States Tennis Association (USTA). She aims to integrate industry insights into her research and help her students gain practical experience throughout their studies.
