Dr. Kang Sun is an Assistant Professor at Southern Illinois University. He earned his Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2023 and joined SIU in 2024.
Dr. Sun specializes in the study of aging, grandparenting, informal/intergenerational care, and rurality and technology, often exploring the intersections of these topics in the context of health disparities. His research has examined how national and international migration influences the individualized burdens of informal and intergenerational care. Currently, Dr. Sun is developing research projects on aging and grandparenting in coordination with local communities in Southern Illinois.
Dr. Sun’s teaching interests include research methods, program evaluation, and aging. His teaching philosophy centers on engaging students through hands-on learning and critical thinking. He integrates library research and writing into his curriculum, ensuring that students gain valuable skills in utilizing academic resources and conducting research effectively.
