Marcus Odom

Marcus Odom, Interim Director, Professor and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow

Dr. Odom is a professor of accountancy and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow. Professor Odom is an enthusiastic and engaging instructor. He teaches undergraduate and graduate accounting information systems, auditing, internal auditing, fraud auditing, cost, and managerial accounting. Odom came to SIU in 1998 from The University of Southwestern Louisiana. He has also taught at Oklahoma State University and Central Texas College. Dr. Odom has received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious Outstanding Educator Award given by the Illinois CPA Society in 2016.

"Throughout my time at SIU, Dr. Odom took me under his wing and taught me about the real world, what it takes to be successful. He helped me get my job at Emerson and he helped me get an internship at Boeing so I can't say enough good things about him," said Justin Miller, a graduate of the School of Accountancy.

Odom returns the compliment. "The students here are wonderful. They want to learn and are willing to work hard to succeed," he said.

  • Fraud auditing
  • Impact of new technology on accounting information systems and the behavioral implications of new technology on system users
  • Specific areas of new technology including artificial intelligence, expert systems, image processing, electronic data interchange, group decision support software and the internet
