Xiaoyan (May) Bao, Associate Professor

May Xiaoyan Bao earned her Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Nebraska. She also is a Saluki. She obtained her Master of Accountancy from SIUC. Her research focuses on issues in accounting quality, fair value accounting, and taxation. Her work has been published in scholarly journals in the areas of financial accounting and taxation. She holds Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.

Nusrat Farah, Assistant Professor

Nusrat Farah is an assistant professor of Accountancy. She earned her Ph.D from Oregon State University and MA in Economics from Eastern Illinois University. Her research interests include managerial deception, social network analysis, audit outcomes, cyber-security assurance, data breach, financial markets, and strategic decision-making.

Timothy Hurley, Clinical Associate Professor

Tim Hurley is a clinical assistant professor of accounting with a specialization in taxation. He currently teaches various tax courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Before joining SIU, he was an associate teaching professor at the University of Missouri – Columbia.

MD Shariful (Sharif) Islam, Assistant Professor

Sharif Islam is an Assistant Professor in School of Accountancy in Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He completed his doctorate in Computer Information Systems and Accounting from Louisiana Tech University and obtained MBA from Eastern Illinois University. He is a licensed CPA in Illinois and a CMA in Bangladesh. His research interest includes data breaches, data analytics, and network centrality of Audit Committees and CEOs and their effects on audit outcomes.

Darla Karnes, Senior Lecturer, Emeritus

Darla Karnes is a senior lecturer in the School of Accountancy. Karnes has been a faculty member in the College of Business since 2000. During that time she has taught over 140 classes and 7,000 students in the areas of financial and managerial accounting, and taxation.

Ed O'Donnell, Emerson Groennert Professor of Accountancy

Ed O'Donnell joined the School of Accountancy faculty at the SIU College of Business in the Fall of 2009. He teaches courses in financial statement auditing, information systems assurance, auditor risk assessment, and experimental accounting research methods. O'Donnell's area of expertise also includes enterprise risk management, accounting information systems, and information technology governance.

Marcus Odom, Interim Director, Professor and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow

Dr. Odom is a professor of accountancy and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow. Professor Odom is an enthusiastic and engaging instructor. He teaches undergraduate and graduate accounting information systems, auditing, internal auditing, fraud auditing, cost, and managerial accounting. Odom came to SIU in 1998 from The University of Southwestern Louisiana. He has also taught at Oklahoma State University and Central Texas College. Dr. Odom has received numerous honors and awards including the prestigious Outstanding Educator Award given by the Illinois CPA Society in 2016.

Raymond Wacker, Associate Professor of Accountancy, Emeritus

Since he joined the College of Business at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1989, Raymond Wacker has garnered praise and numerous accolades including the prestigious Outstanding Educator Award given by the Illinois CPA Society in 2007. Wacker received Southern Illinois University’s Excellence Through Commitment Award for superior teaching in 2006 and is the only four time winner of the College of Business Outstanding Graduate Teacher of the Year Award.
