Christopher Mullins, Professor

Criminology and Criminal Justice

Dr. Mullins joined the faculty of SIU in Fall 2008 after serving as an assistant professor at the University of Northern Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri- St. Louis in 2004 and currently serves as Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs in the College of Health and Human Sciences at SIU.

Dr. Mullin’s research focuses on the structural and cultural aspects of violence, including street violence, terrorism, atrocity violence, and the laws which attempt to control such behavior. He has published five books, one co-edited volume, and over 70 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in a wide variety of outlets. He is co-editor of Emerald Press’ Advances in Historical Criminology series, and his latest book, A Socio-legal History of the Laws of War, was published by Emerald in August 2023. He is an affiliate faculty in Sociology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
