Amos Kalua, PhD, Assistant Professor

Architecture

Dr. Amos Kalua is a Chartered Architect registered with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), a Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the Engineering Council in the United Kingdom (UK) and a Member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). He is also a Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Research Interests

Dr. Kalua’s research attempts to solve architectural problems in a way that benefits both the community and the individual. At the community level, he seeks to make a contribution towards architecture that minimally impacts on the environment. At the individual level, he seeks to make a contribution towards architecture that speaks to multiple needs of the human being; architecture that speaks to not only the sense of sight, but also the totality of the other senses such as touch, smell and hearing. Through his research work, he investigates the interactions between architecture, building physics and environmental sustainability with the objective of enhancing human health and comfort in a more sustainable manner. The body of his published scholarly work addresses the themes of green building practices, building energy consumption, building envelope design, thermal comfort, indoor air quality and the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling in architectural and engineering design.
