Bruce DeRuntz
Bruce DeRuntz, Leadership Development Program Director, Professor
Dr. Bruce DeRuntz, is a Professor in the School of Applied Engineering and Technology. Dr. DeRuntz received his BS in Industrial Technology from Eastern Illinois University, his MS in Manufacturing Systems, and his Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development from SIUC. He joined the school in 1998 after a successful career as a quality professional in industry, working for A.O. Smith Automotive Products, Emerson Electric Corporation, and the Manufacturing Extension Program. He holds a dual teaching appointment with the College of Business, where he teaches Advanced Leadership in the MBA program.
He has been the director of SIU's Leadership Development Program since 2006 and has received repeated funding from The National Science Foundation for his research on technical leadership development. The Leadership Development Program has demonstrated a 30 percent faster time for undergraduate BS completion and a 100 percent graduation rate. He is the past Editor of ASQ's Quality Management Forum and Associate Editor of the Journal of Industrial Technology. He is a Fellow with the American Society for Quality and holds certifications as a Six Sigma Black Belt, Quality Engineer, and Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence. He is a Certified Facilitator of The Leadership Challenge Workshop and the Leadership Practices Inventory and a Certified Clifton Strengths Coach.
He received the school’s Outstanding Teacher Award and has served as the Industry Division President for the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE).
