Zoology

My research interest focuses on the historical relationships among nematodes and their mammalian hosts across the neotropics.

I dissect the macroevolutionary histories of both mammals and parasites to identify the processes that resulted in faunistic diversification in the New World. In my lab we work in biodiversity inventories of the Neotropics, which results in species descriptions, records of distribution and host associations. This is important because there are areas of the continent with little or no information about the distribution of parasites. As a result of our work, we monitor agents of infectious diseases. Finally, we reconstruct the phylogenies of those groups of parasites.
