Thomas Fagerholm, Associate Professor, Technical Direction and Production Management

Tom Fagerholm's career in theater started with a Bachelor of Arts in creative drama and theater education from the University of Northern Iowa. After graduating, he toured as an actor-educator, worked as a freelance technical director and co-founded two theater companies including Intergenerational Theatre Productions in Eagan, Minn., still in operation today.

Tom holds a Master of Fine Arts in technical direction from Minnesota State University Mankato. He has worked on several independent films and interned with Cirque du Soleil on the show “Ká.” Before coming to SIU Tom served as the technical director of the Lackland Center for Performing Arts and the Centenary Stage Company at Centenary College in Hackettstown, New Jersey. During that time he managed more than 150 events a year, worked with numerous regional and nationally recognized designers, and toured a production to 59e59 in NYC on an Off-Broadway contract. As an assistant professor at Centenary College he taught a variety of courses from stagecraft to sound design. In the coming years Tom looks forward to integrating a generous automation package into productions and curriculum at SIU.
