Erica Moses, Assistant Lecturer
Erica Moses is a historical archaeologist with field experience throughout the Mid-Atlantic US, and primarily in Virginia. She has a master's degree from the University of York (UK) with a focus on the use of GIS and other digital methods for documenting and interpreting archaeological resources.
Her primary research area is landscape archaeology (e.g., site layouts and settlement patterns, use of space over time, concepts of space and place).
Before joining the SIU faculty in 2024, she worked first in cultural resource management and then at a variety of colonial and antebellum historical sites, doing fieldwork, research, GIS analysis, and public interpretation. She has served as a field school instructor and intern/volunteer supervisor at several of those sites and is passionate about teaching others how to "do" archaeology and why it matters. Additional interests include cartography, spatial analysis, remote sensing, photography and advanced digital imaging methods for both sites and artifacts, and public engagement.
