Valerie E. Boyer, Associate Professor
Communication Disorders and Sciences
Valerie E. Boyer is a tenured Associate Professor in the Communication Disorders and Sciences program. She is the current recipient of the Mark and Susan Ashley Endowed Professorship.
Dr. Boyer holds a Ph.D. in Special Education (2006) and M.S. in Communication Disorders and Sciences (2000), both from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She is a licensed speech-language pathologist holding a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. She teaches CDS 505 (Phonological Development and Disorders), CDS 507 (Language Disorder), and CDS 517 (Birth to Three Communication Disorders).
Dr. Boyer was awarded the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA) Mentorship Award in the College of Education and Human Services in 2015. She is also a three-time recipient of the Rehabilitation Institute Tenure-Track Teacher of the Year Award (2010, 2012 & 2014).
Specializations: pediatric language development and disorders particularly with young children, children with autism spectrum disorders, and children from diverse backgrounds as well as scholarship of teaching and learning.
