Computer Requirements
Recommended Specs for Best Performance for New Laptop Purchases:
- Windows 10 Pro/Ultimate/HP
- Intel i7 (quad core) or AMD Multi-core Equivalent
- 500GB-1TB Hard Drive
- 16 GB Memory (or as much as you can afford)
- 1920 x 1080 or Higher Resolution (most screens cover this)
- 15" or larger screen size
Minimum Laptop Specs*:
- Windows 10 Home
- Any Intel Processor (Core i3, i5 or i7, Xeon, Pentium) or AMD Processor with SSE2 technology.
- Single Core or Multi-Core
- 8 GB Memory
- 5 GB of free Hard Drive space (required for Windows to work)
- 1920 x 1080 Minimum Resolution
*We do not recommend buying the minimum spec laptop since the computer may need to last through your college years.
Recommended Software:
- Office 365 for students - this is free for all SIU students. It is downloadable from login.microsoftonline.com when they log in using SIU credentials.
- Autodesk Student Suite or software from the Autodesk Education Free Software Site. www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/featured.
- Adobe Student Suite - reduced cost for students and available in the Creative Cloud for Education. www.adobe.com/creativecloud/buy/students.html
