Mike joined the School of Applied Engineering and Technology in 1992 as a Visiting Professor/Faculty Representative at the off-campus Dover Air Force, Delaware site. Mike holds a B.S. in Accounting, a B.S. in Business Management, a M.B.A., a M.S. in Human Resources Management, and an Ed.D. in Educational Innovation and Leadership from Wilmington University. During his 30+ years of service with the University, he has managed and taught at multiple SIU off-campus sites throughout the country.

Dr. Bruce DeRuntz, is a Professor in the School of Applied Engineering and Technology. Dr. DeRuntz received his BS in Industrial Technology from Eastern Illinois University, his MS in Manufacturing Systems, and his Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development from SIUC. He joined the school in 1998 after a successful career as a quality professional in industry, working for A.O. Smith Automotive Products, Emerson Electric Corporation, and the Manufacturing Extension Program. 

Sherri Houmadi holds a PhD in Engineering Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC), where she currently teaches as an adjunct professor. With a strong foundation in quality engineering, she earned a master’s degree in Quality Engineering and Management in 2016 before embarking on a career as a quality engineer at Aisin Manufacturing. From 2016 to 2020, she developed expertise in quality assurance, process improvement, and operational efficiency. Now, as a dedicated educator, she brings industry insights and academic rigor to her students at SIUC, inspiring the next generation of quality engineers.
