Bruce Deruntz, Leadership Development Program Director, Professor

Dr. Bruce DeRuntz, is a Professor in the School of Applied Engineering and Technology. Dr. DeRuntz received his BS in Industrial Technology from Eastern Illinois University, his MS in Manufacturing Systems, and Ph.D. in Workforce Education and Development from SIUC. He joined the school in 1998 after a successful career as a quality professional in industry working for A.O. Smith Automotive Products, Emerson Electric Corporation and the Manufacturing Extension Program. He teaches classes in Manufacturing Processes, Quality, Industrial Metrology, Project Management I & II, Project Leadership, and Fundamentals of Leadership. He also holds a dual teaching appointment with the College of Business where he teaches Advanced Leadership in the MBA program.

Julie Dunston, Director, IMAE Program Coordinator, Associate Professor

Julie K. Dunston received a BSIE from the University of Iowa in 1991, followed by an MSIE in 1993, also from UI. She completed her PhD work in July 1995, and was awarded her PhD in Mechanical Engineering in December 1995.  In August 1995, she joined the College of Engineering at Southern Illinois University and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2001.

Carl Spezia, EET Program Coordinator, Associate Professor

Carl joined the EET program in 1998. He worked as a power systems engineer for electric utilities for eight years prior to seeking a career in higher education.  He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois.  His industrial assignments included power system modeling, power systems protection, and substation design.  He received his M.S. and Ph.D. from SIUC in 1991 and 2002 respectively.  He teaches courses in electric power and machinery (EET 332A EET 332B), industrial automation (EET 438A, EET 438B) and electric circuits (EET 304A, EET 304B).  He serves as the faculty advisor of the local chapter of Tau Alpha Pi, the Engineering Technology honor society.

Tomas Velasco, Graduate Program Director, Associate Professor

Tomas joined the Department of Technology as an Assistant Professor in the fall of 1993.  He received a professional degree (B.S. & M.S.) in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia in 1984, a M.S. in Manufacturing in 1985 and a M.B.A. in 1987, both from Pittsburg State University.  In December of 1991, he received his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas.
