Admission Process

Aviation Flight is a Fall Admission Program

Application Deadline:

The deadline to apply for the University Aviation Flight Applicant Pool is November 1 for the following fall semester. (Example: November 1, 2026, for the Fall 2027 semester)

Application Requirements:

  • Complete the undergraduate admission application, selecting Aviation Flight as your major.
  • Request official transcripts* to be received by the undergraduate admissions office by October1. *Note: it normally takes 4 weeks for the admissions office to process transcripts

Criteria for Ranking Admitted Aviation Flight Applicants (Maximum 10 Points)

  1. GPA on a 4.0 Scale: Up to 4 points
    • Example: GPA 3.0 to 3.99 = 3 points; GPA 4.0 = 4 points
  2. Algebra Requirement: 1 point
    • Completed high school Algebra II or college algebra (grade C or higher)
  3. Physics Requirement: 1 point
    • Completed high school or college physics
  4. Military Aviation Experience: 1 point
  5. FAA Certificate: 1 point
    • Hold an FAA certificate (excluding medical and student pilot certificates)
  6. Time Management Experience: 1 point
    • Participation in extracurricular, volunteer, or work activities while a student
  7. Application Submission and Admission to the Aviation Flight (AF) Applicant Pool by November 1: 1 point
    • Submit a complete application with supporting documents and admitted to the AF Applicant Pool by the November 1 priority deadline. 1 point
    • Submit a complete application with supporting documents by November 1 and admitted to the AF Applicant Pool after November 1 to November 20 – application and documents will be reviewed and ranked.  No point will be awarded for admission after November 1 to November 20.

Admission Decision and Next Steps

  1. Decision Timeline:

    • Decisions will be made within seven weeks of the priority closure date (November 1), no later than the third week of December.
  2. Admission Notification:

    • Selected applicants will receive an email with an offer of admission for the fall semester. The email will include a confirmation of attendance form.
  3. Acceptance Process:

    • To accept the offer, selected applicants must complete the confirmation of attendance form and submit it with the processing fee.
    • The confirmation of attendance form and fee must be received no later than the deadline specified on the form.
    • Once the form and fee are received, an email will be sent with information regarding academic advisement, how to schedule an appointment, and FAA requirements that are needed for the advisement appointment and to begin a flight course.

For Applicants Not Selected:

  • Applicants who are not selected will receive an email with instructions on changing their major to Aviation Management, Aviation Technologies, or another major at SIU.
  • Note: Admission to these other programs does not guarantee the opportunity to fly in future semesters.
