Aviation Flight

SIU Aviation Flight Students in flight over Southern Illinois

Watch your career take off with our Aviation Flight program!

If you want to be a professional pilot, start here. You can earn the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Aviation Flight (AF), or you can combine this program into with either the Aviation Management or Aviation Technologies bachelor’s degree programs. You’ll begin flight training your first semester.

The AAS degree curriculum ensures that our graduates hold the certifications needed to pursue entry level pilot positions in the industry. Our graduates are working as pilots for airline, charter, government, corporate flight, air ambulance, cargo and freight, flight training, and aerial survey operations.

Associate Degree

The AF AAS degree prepares students for careers as professional pilots. Students in the AF degree program begin their flight training in their first semester and may begin working as Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) in the program by their senior year.

Approximately 80% of students in the AF AAS degree program complete the Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Management as a 2 + 2 arrangement - getting both the AAS and the BS degrees in a four-year period.

Southern Illinois Airport & TEC

Southern Illinois Airport ranks as one of the busiest airports in the State of Illinois. As a full-service facility, the airport provides three lighted all-weather runways and an array of aircraft and pilot services. Sufficient land is also available at the airport for the development of additional aviation-related enterprises.

The Transportation Education Center is home to the Aviation Flight Program and includes multiple classrooms, individual instructor offices, simulator training labs, and more. Located among the hills and lakes of beautiful southern Illinois, the airport is continually upgrading its facilities to ensure that it meets the needs of aviation users well into the future.
