German or Spanish Minors
To obtain a minor in German, or Spanish, students need to complete 18 credit hours of coursework, excluding first-year language classes. Those beginning a new language at SIU must finish the first year of language study (two three-credit-hour courses) before advancing to the second year. All required coursework should be completed within a single chosen language area—either German or Spanish.

Japanese Minor

Latin Minor
Completing a minor in Latin entails two years of dedicated language study along with a related cultural course and participation in the Classics Seminar (Classics 491). Students beginning with no prior background will need 18 credit hours to fulfill the requirements for this minor. Students with advanced language skills are encouraged to start at a higher level, working with the Classics advisor to complete their course of study.
Mythology Minor
The Mythology Minor encompasses an interdisciplinary curriculum. Students engage in diverse coursework across various aspects of mythology studies. To attain a Minor in Mythology, students must fulfill the requirement of completing 12 credit hours in courses, all of which must be passed with a grade of C or higher.
Peace Studies Minor
The interdisciplinary Peace Studies minor, comprising at least 18 credit hours, empowers undergraduates with insights into the causes of war and violence, historical contexts, and nonviolent alternatives.
