Cinema

SIU Cinema students outside learning

At SIU, you can earn a bachelor of arts in cinema. Additionally, we offer minors in animation, cinema, and visual and screen cultures.

The cinema program focuses on the history, theory, and practice of the still and moving image. We emphasize experimentation and exploration. Because of our small class size, you’ll work directly with faculty and easily find a peer group. You’ll also have opportunities to collaborate with other programs on campus, making you a more well-rounded media maker.

Bachelor's Program

Visual storytelling is the heart of our Cinema program. Our foundational courses places you in the history of film, gives an understanding of how culture and technology shape our increasingly visual society, and promotes hands-on technical film-making.

Minors

Students can minor in either cinema, visual and screen cultures or animation. Pair this minor with journalism, art history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, political science or other areas to maximize your career options.

Student Organizations

The Big Muddy Crew and Movie Camera Movementare some of the exciting student-registered organizations you’ll want to explore and join. The experiences offered by these student groups will be a significant part of your education here.
