The Graduate School has resources for any questions you might have about graduate studies at SIU.

Every application has to be submitted through the Graduate School’s online application.

All applications need to be complete and submitted by January 1.

Basic Requirements

  • GPA Requirements:
    • Master’s Program 2.70 or higher GPA
    • Doctoral Program 3.25 or higher GPA
  • Current Application Fee: $65.00
  • Recommendations: 3 letters of recommendation
  • Statement of Purpose: 1-2 pages
  • Research Statement: 1-2 pages
  • Resume/Curriculum Vitae
  • GRE Scores: General Exam
    • Minimum required cumulative Score = 300 (according to the new scoring system)
  • Transcripts and Diplomas/Proof of Degree Conferred: Although the student may upload either unofficial or official transcripts and diplomas to the website, if the student is offered admission, the Graduate School requires the applicant to provide official paper copies of all transcripts and proofs of degrees conferred. If you wish to be considered for Graduate School fellowships, include transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended, even if transfer work is included on another transcript.

International Students

TOEFL SCORES (International applicants only): The TOEFL TEST OR IELT TEST, for International Applicants, must be taken within 2 years of the date of requested admission.

  • TOEFL SCORES – Minimun Required:
    • Internet Based = 100
    • Computer Based = 250
    • Paper Based = 600
  • IELTS TEST – Minimun Required: 7.0
