Nutrition and Dietetics

The field of dietetics is more abundant than it has ever been before with career options in a variety of facilities and areas of practice. Students who are passionate about food and human nutrition will find the tools and resources they need to become registered dietitians through the completion of both the undergraduate and graduate programs offered at SIU.

Fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), these programs provide focused advisement with a clear path from undergraduate and graduate studies to internships. Faculty members are well experienced and highly qualified to help students gain the theoretical and practical skills necessary to embark on rewarding careers in dietetics.

Bachelor's Program

The dietetics program results in a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics that is just the beginning for students interested in this exciting and ever-expanding field. Whether looking to enter the workforce after undergraduate studies or move on to advanced studies leading to licensure as a registered dietitian, this fully accredited program provides the necessary foundation for a rewarding career in human nutrition.

Master's Program

While earning a Master of Science in Human Sciences with a Nutrition and Dietetics Concentration, you will be guided through the coursework and supervised practice requirements that lead to licensure upon completion of the degree. Successful graduates of this program are uniquely prepared to become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) or Licensed Dietitian Nutritionists (LDN) after passing the credentialing exam.
