Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology
Our program is designed to provide an educational environment for students to acquire the professional, research, and technical skills necessary for success in the automotive and related industries.
The degree provides theoretical and practical hands-on application of knowledge through a combination of automotive technical courses, business/management courses, along with computing and communication courses.

The undergraduate major can be accomplished by fulfilling the requirements for the Bachelor of Science.

Minors
The Advanced Vehicle Systems and Diagnostics Minor is designed to equip students with the specialized skills they need to excel in the field of vehicle diagnostic development, serviceability engineering, technical product support operations and more. This comprehensive curriculum will prepare students to work with top automotive, truck, and equipment manufacturers, parts and component suppliers, service and parts suppliers, and government agencies. With a focus on hands-on learning and practical experience, students will gain the knowledge and expertise they need to succeed in this exciting and dynamic field.
The Automotive, Truck, and Equipment Management Minor is the perfect program for students looking to launch a career in the fields of automotive, truck, and equipment management, marketing, planning, and support operations. This program offers a highly-focused curriculum that will equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in a wide range of industries, including major manufacturers, parts and component suppliers, service and parts suppliers, and government agencies. Whether you're interested in learning about the latest marketing trends, improving operational efficiencies, or working on projects that make a real impact, this minor will give you the tools you need to succeed.
Facilities
Our students have access to cutting-edge industrial facilities, designed for hands-on learning. Our majors will find a myriad of technologies and vehicles, including over 120 modern training vehicles; numerous research vehicles; advanced diagnostic equipment; AWD chassis, 2WD chassis, engine and transmission dynamometers; three large service labs and four large component labs; and dedicated student club rooms.
Living Learning Community (LLC)
Students living on campus have the option to reside in the Automotive Technology – Living Learning Community (LLC). Here, students have the opportunity to join a co-ed community of diverse student residents with similar interests.
The LLC provides students the opportunity to interact with faculty, participate in programs that bridge the gap between coursework and friendship, enjoy a strong feeling of connection to the campus community, and have a shared Living/Learning experience with other students who have similar interests and goals.
Admissions
Our program is recognized both nationally and internationally for its quality, excellence, and prominence in the automotive, truck, diesel, and mobility industries.
Admission to the program is done through a holistic review process starting with applying to the university and continuing through a secondary review. This review allows the program to look beyond just test scores and grades to evaluate each applicant.

Scholarships
Each year, the SIUC Automotive Technology Department awards thousands of dollars of scholarships provided by manufacturers, endowments, and friends of the program. See the Scholarship List for a listing of active scholarships. Be sure to apply for the scholarships.

Student Organizations
Students in all fields of study are encouraged to participate in Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), which allow students to achieve their personal, social, and intellectual growth. RSO's play a vital role in campus life, engaging thousands of students in a variety of valuable experiences and creating a vibrant campus life.
Our student organizations include the Automotive Ambassadors, Women in Automotive Transportation Technology, Saluki Drag Racing Teams, Saluki Autocross Racing Team Auto Club, Off-Road Team, and the Automotive Living Learning Community.
