Public Safety Administration

The Master of Science in  Public Safety Administration (PSA) at SIU is for individuals with experience in fire, police or emergency medical department administration who wish to advance their careers in local or federal law enforcement, corrections or homeland security. Graduates of this program acquire enhanced problem-solving tactics and knowledge of complex public safety and homeland security solutions, ready to fulfill leadership roles.

This degree is offered fully online or in our off-campus locations:
Joliet Junior College: Romeoville, IL
Harper College: Palatine, IL

Degree Requirements

The practical coursework in the PSA program provides career advancement in a convenient online forum, with off-campus and online instruction only, which can be completed in as little as 16 months. Coursework can be started in either the fall, spring or summer semester and can be in person, hybrid or fully online.

Students in the M.S. program must have a bachelor’s degree in a public safety or fire service-related field. The format allows students to fulfill their current professional obligations while completing the required coursework.

A minimum of 30 semester credit hours is required for this Master of Science degree.

  • Required Courses: 15 credit hours, including Practicum during their final semester
  • Elective Courses: 15 credit hours
