Joshua Ingold, Assistant Lecturer

Joshua Ingold began his career working as a machinist and metal fabricator before pursuing an education in design. He earned his BFA in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University where he received the Rickert-Zeibold Trust Award in 2009. Joshua earned a Graduate Fellowship to the Rhode Island School of Design, where he received a Masters of Architecture degree in 2012. Since that time he has been invited to participate as a guest critic in the Department of Architecture, co-authored and taught the curriculum for a thesis preparation seminar for the Furniture Design Department, and worked as a thesis advisor at RISD.

Throughout his time in Rhode Island, Joshua worked as Design Assistant, Lead Fabricator, and Project Manager for the Providence based design/build architectural group From[In]Form. In 2010, Joshua started Object-A, a custom design + fabrications studio that focuses on providing design consultation, custom home remodeling, custom furniture and fixtures, as well as architectural elements and installations for residential and commercial applications to both private clients and the design industry at large. Joshua moved Object-A back to Southern Illinois in 2014.

A background in both sculpture and architecture have helped in developing the capacity to recognize the spatial implications and conceptual potency of the objects with which we interact daily. In particular, Joshua specializes in objects and installations that produce spatial relationships between users, program shifts and versatility, and help the owner/occupant express themselves through the act of dwelling.
