Professor Jon Daniel Davey Ph.D., A.I.A., Distinguished Faculty in the School of Architecture is an Architect, Registered Interior Designer, Founder and Director of Kid Architecture/Architecture Camps, Le Petit Grand Tour d’Architecture Programs, and President of the RBF Dome NFP (preservation of the R. Buckminster Fuller Dome Home). Professor Davey has been awarded numerous teaching and service awards including; School of Architecture Teacher of the Year (five times), College Teacher of the Year (twice), College Core Curriculum Teacher of the Year, and E. J. and Mary C. Simon Distinguished Faculty Award, School of Architecture Scholar of the year and College Scholar of the year, Lindell W. Sturgis Award, and Southern Illinois Leaders Among Us Class of 2017.

As program director of Kid Architecture, he has developed and conducted workshops for young people aged 9-18 dealing with the design of the built environment with a special interest in architecture and interior design for the last 32 years. These workshops have received grants and scholarships from the Illinois Arts Council, Prairie Illinois – A.I.A., and the Architects Foundation, in partnership with Armstrong World Industries Foundation. To date there have been 300 workshops nationwide being awarded; An Award of Merit from the American Architecture Foundation (twice), the Citation of Honor AIA Illinois, The R. Buckminster Fuller Award from the American Institute of Architects Illinois, Award of Distinction in the Children’s Environmental Advocacy The Urban Network, Commendations from The Construction Specification Institute Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Presidential Award for Education, Connections Citation, and Illinois State School Board. His academic experience includes a Ph.D. (A Theoretical Model of Learning Employing Constructivism, Phenomenology and Neuroscience: Constructivist Neurophenomenology), an MS in Education, MED in Environmental Design, a Stage D'Architecture et Dessin D'Interieur, Ecole De Beaux-Arts, Paris, a BS in Architectural Studies an AAS in Architectural Technology and a Certificate of Education from the Jose Marti Institute, Havana, Cuba. He has design experience in architecture and engineering offices as well as his own firm Prairie Design Studio, now Atelier Davey. Pertaining to Travel/Study programs professor Davey has developed and conducted 82 travel/study programs to Europe, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, India, and Cuba. His present research is quite eclectic to include Neuroscience in Architecture, Architecture History, Computer-Aided Design, and Environment Behavior Studies.
