Kara Weshinskey

Kara Weshinskey, Assistant Lecturer


Kara Weshinskey is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Accountancy at Southern Illinois University. She is a Certified Public Accountant with experience in audit and financial accounting. Instructor Weshinskey worked in public accounting and governmental and not-for-profit accounting before becoming part of the faculty at SIU.

Some of her areas of expertise include managerial accounting, audit, and consolidations. She enjoys incorporating real-world examples into her teaching while introducing students to the technology accountants and managers use every day. Mrs. Weshinskey holds Masters of Business Administration from Southern Illinois University. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration as an accounting major at Southeast Missouri State University. Before furthering her education, she earned an Associate of Business Administration and Accounting from John A. Logan College. Mrs. Weshinskey loves working with SIU students because they think outside the box. She describes her students as eager to learn and equally eager to apply what they have learned to solve new problems. When asked about the students she teaches, Weshinskey states, “Students from SIU have the ingenuity to think creatively about industry. SIU students are leaders and problem-solvers and those are the kind of qualities that are needed for entrepreneurs and highly valued by employers”
